Our Lifetime Achievement Award is a new award this year. Pat Fuehrer has been a Touching Hearts Care Partner since May of 2009. During her thirteen plus years with us, she has continuously established meaningful relationships with her clients and has embraced our company core values with vigor. During Nancy’s interview she told our staff that she was looking for a diverse and flexible position , and she found just that! Nancy has been with Touching Hearts for almost 13 years. A great time was had by all at the annual Touching Hearts Holiday Party at the Irondequoit Country Club. The party was a reflection of everyone’s hard work and accomplishments during 2022. We celebrated with delicious food, lively conversation, and festive attire.

One of the things we do with our Touching Hearts Clients is take them outside of the home and do fun things! Today our Care Partner MaryAnne took our sweet client Ida to Eastview Mall. Ida enjoyed looking around the shops and enjoyed seeing the beautiful holiday decorations.

We were thrilled to have our employee training in person again. Julie Lewinski owner of Care Patrol and an Occupational Therapist, demonstrated proper techniques in assisting an individual with standby assistance. She shared many helpful examples of how we can keep our clients safe at home.

Our caregivers worked in small groups to discuss different situations and how best to handle them. There were many great points made as to why some of the scenarios could be difficult to have one correct answer. Our caregivers bounced ideas off of each other and in the end presented their opinions to the group as a whole. It was fantastic listening to why one group thought the way they did and be able to go back and forth. In the end, the feedback we received was amazing. Many of our caregivers walked away with a new outlook on an old situation.

Why did you choose to work at Touching Hearts at Home?
I worked in a hospital setting a long time ago and I missed working with people.

What is a typical day at work like for you?
A typical day doesn’t seem like work. I go to my clients and visit with them, see what they would like to do and what they need done for the day.

What is your favorite memory from working as a caregiver?
A client had severe dementia who loved picking fruit with her siblings as a child. I took her to a farm to pick fruit. It sounds small but she couldn’t contain her excitement.

What do you like the most about care giving at Touching Hearts?
Meeting different people and knowing that you are making a difference in the quality of someone’s life.

What is your dream trip or vacation? I love Pacific Grove California; I would go there all the time if I could.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know about you? I was in the military and stationed in California, lived there for 15 years before I moved back to New York.

Patti our HR Recruiter attended the St. John Fisher University Nursing Fair this week.
